Portraits of the Moon is an evocative contemporary dance project that explores the moon's profound symbolism in Chinese culture and examines the theme of separation and reunion among Asian immigrant populations in America. Inspired by ancient lunar myths, poetry, and the personal journeys of Asian immigrants, this innovative production weaves together movement, text, and music to create a mesmerizing performance. By honoring Chinese cultural heritage and illuminating the experiences of immigrants within Asian communities, Portraits of the Moon celebrates diverse identities and invites audiences to connect deeply and reflect on their own cultural roots and stories.

A multidisciplinary suite blending dance, live and recorded music, spoken word and visual imagery, Synergy Dance Collective NY’s Water Like This … Water Like That is a full length work-in-progress propelling viewers into the realm of water’s natural beauty, torrential power and healing properties. It addresses the impact climate change has had on water and how people of the global majority are more likely to experience negative effects from pollution, unsafe drinking water, severe weather incidents, marine plastic pollution and other environmental problems. Through “compassionate contemporary dance … filled with amazing lifts and partnering” (Moro, QNS), Nancy Brier / Synergy Dance Collective NY uncovers our intimately deep connections to water and, through a dynamic sensorial fusion of the arts, asks what we can do to create positive change.
