Cori Kresge | Stephanie Saywell Take Root at Green Space!

TTake Root performances continue into 2024 at Green Space with work by Cori Kresge and Stephanie Saywell on JANUARY 19 & 20 at 8PM.

Cori Kresge

"Welcome passengers, on behalf of Seraphim Airlines. We are pleased to provide you with non-stop service to ..." A flight crew of four dancers, choreographed by Cori Kresge, embodies their roles as supernatural stewards charged with demonstrating and initiating a protocol to keep humanity safe in the very likely event of an emergency. Quoting gestures from airline attendant safety demos, infused with rigorous physicality and elevated by intentional precarity and risk-taking, Seraphim Airlines conjures an atmosphere that is equal parts uplifting and ominous. “We request your full attention as we demonstrate the safety features of this aircraft”.

Stephanie Saywell

Inspired by themes pulled from “Hansel & Gretel”, Saywell's work navigates the sea of stories we tell each other about ourselves. Through heightened text, intricate character work, and the athletic conquering and division of space, three performers dive into a physical exploration of how stories are disseminated, shared, edited, censored, voiced, and left untold within the histories of our bodies. What causes us to leave home? What delight and terror do we discover in the forest of other people? And what bread crumbs lead us back?
