Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company

The Company will premiere the dance film Dandelion. Hearty, tenacious, and resilient, dandelions—a symbol for the perseverance to get through difficulty and overcome challenges—can grow practically anywhere. A crack of sidewalk is enough to shoot through. "We need long roots now more than ever, to dig in our heels deeply, to stay connected and part of a community, “ says  choreographer, performer, and filmmaker Daniel Gwirtzman. "Positive energy and hope needs to proliferate and spread, conquering hate, divisiveness, inequality and injustice."

Daniel Gwirtzman--producer, choreographer, educator, filmmaker and performer—directs the NYC-based Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company, celebrating its 22nd Anniversary in 2021. His repertory for the nonprofit, and other concert and commercial projects, has earned praise for its invention, humor, stylistic diversity, musicality, charisma and accessibility. “Mr. Gwirtzman does know that in dance less can be more. And that’s a good thing for any choreographer to know” writes The New York Times. The New Yorker describes him as a choreographer of “high spirits and skill.” Daniel Gwirtzman has been creating dance films consistently this past decade.

BAIRA / MVMNT PHLOSPHY

WELCOME BACK is a dance-theatre drama that offers a look into the Baira family’s trailer park quarantine in a small, rural Michigan town. This cinematic experience of parenthood, pandemic life and socio-political division slips between the real and the fantastical as they push, pull and wrestle with it all.

Shaina and Bryan Baira are life-partners and co-directors of BAIRA / MVMNT PHLOSPHY, a dance-theatre company committed to understanding the human experience and sharing their perspective through the movement arts. Born in TX and MI respectively, the two found each other 8 years ago in NYC and have since been sharing their work and engaging communities throughout the U.S.A. Their work is known for its bravery, vulnerability and intricately athletic movement language. The couple is currently based out of Detroit where they are Artists-in-Residence at the Music Hall and Wayne State University's Department of Theatre and Dance.
